Thank you !

Going back to the start

When I was ten years old a stranger aka an Education Psychologist dismissed me as 'being slow and will always be slow, unable to pass exams, go to college and Uni. That my parents should be pleased if I get a shop job. ( That is his quote not mine. I believe shop work is highly skilled despite it's bad rep). As sad as it sounds, I have observed people working in supermarkets and shops only to come to the conclusion it is all about efficiency and synchronicity. Skills that I struggle with,,, talk about irony!  So, to surmise I was told from an early age 'I cant.'

Mine is not a special case

I do not believe that I am the only neuro-diverse person in the world who has been dismissed by some questionable professionals and family members. In fact by talking to you my fellow Dyspraxics a lot of you have suffered at the hands of other people's ignorance. Losing jobs, being kicked off courses, being discriminated against and rejected simply because non-Dyspraxics aka ( the special- norms) do not understand and are even unwilling to try. After all Dyspraxia is not like the 'sexy specialism that is Dyslexia'. Now before anyone has a go stating "hang on I'm Dyslexic" my response is so am I. If we are honest about it Dyslexia gets far more media attention and far social awareness and understanding than Dyspraxia, and this is unfair. Especially if we are suppose to be a society of equal opportunities and understanding. That quote always makes me sneer, whilst thinking AS IF! We are living in a time of unequal opportunities where by the rich are getting richer at the expense of the poor who are losing their homes and their lives, simply because they are disregarded as having any worth. Whether it be because they are only working part time or they cant work at all. Why does society asscociate our worth with socio-economic status?  This current Government are pounds and pence over people!

Dyspraxia itself is NOT a Disease, is Not an illness and is NOT a label worthy of the 'special brigade.' Dyspraxia IS a Neurological condition. Dyspraxia IS a Difference and Dyspraxia IS a Gift.  It is a condition that deserves far more recognition then it currently has not only for the struggles of living with it but also, the ways it can enrich our lives. I know some of my fellow Dyspraxics may disagree with me on that point! I don't judge you for that as we are all going through different things. Hopefully, at some point in your lives you will come to realise and appreciate your difference for what it is, A GIFT.

Acknowledgements

My fellow Dyspraxics I would like to sincerely thank you. You have and you continue to teach me practical pointers that I can apply and share with others. From time to time you make me laugh, even when I feel low to the point of tears. I have started a course called WRAP ( I forgot what it stands for already) and we are suppose to do a mini presentation on three things that help us despite our situations. And you, my fellow Dyspraxics are one of my three things. You don't realise it but I am amazed by your tenacity, your humour and dogged determination inspires me frequently. I no longer feel alone in this none Dyspraxic world. Dealing with the special-norms and their frequent attempts at making life more difficult then it ort to be, is that bit more bearable because of you.
All 3746 of you help me more than you realise.
To conclude, I would like to say thank you.
